Stop complaining about non-existent problems when there are real problems around

FUTfacts has become widely known for our refutations to the scripting, momentum and handicapping conspiracy theories. I have more than once been called gullible, naive or an EA shill because I don’t buy into these ideas.

We challenge these beliefs because we want the truth to prevail. The community doesn’t become a better place by spreading unfounded rumors. But having said that, there is an even weightier  concern: Namely the fact that these discussions about non-existent problems tend to remove the attention from real problems with FIFA, with EA and with the business model that many of us are entangled with.

Psychological momentum is stronger in FUT

Momentum exists – but not in the shape of a hidden feature used to flip matches upside down. What I’m talking about here is the completely natural phenomenon which occurs when someone seems to have the upper hand and in turn perform increasingly well. What’s more, this effect appears to be strong in FUT compared to real football.

Believing in scripting may derive from a poor understanding of football

Why do people believe in scripting and it’s two buddies, handicapping and momentum? It’s fair to assume that the same psychological mechanisms causing people to believe in other conspiracy theories are present in the minds of scripting believers as well. However, the scripting conspiracy theory could be driven by a fundamental lack of understanding of not only FIFA but also football in general. Here is why.
